With an early dream of the Olympics, SSG Samuel Kosgei ran long distances during his high school in his native Kenya. In view of his performance, Lamar University awarded him a full scholarship to earn a Bachelor’s of Science in Health. He became a collegiate standout in track and field and cross country, and continued to improve after he joined the Army. Since enlisting, he has won two Marine Corps Marathons and placed second in the Army Ten Miler. SSG Kosgei continues to strive for excellence, serving as Platoon Sergeant and Assistant Coach for the WCAP Track and Field Team.

Serving in the Army has instilled discipline and resilience, enabling me to excel as a noncommissioned officer and elite athlete. I'm honored to represent my country.
