Assistant Coach

SFC Augustus Maiyo discovered competitive running after graduating from high school in Kenya in 2003, choosing distance running over soccer because he felt more at home on the roads and trails. That decision launched an accomplished career that included becoming a three-time NCAA All-American at the University of Alabama, winning the 2012 Marine Corps Marathon, capturing the 2016 Army Ten-Miler title, earning multiple Pan American and NACAC cross-country gold medals, and serving as the 2020 U.S. Olympic Marathon alternate. SFC Maiyo joined the Army because he was inspired by the opportunity to serve as a Soldier while continuing to pursue the sport he loves. Today, he gives back as a Track and Field Assistant Coach with the Army World Class Athlete Program, helping develop the next generation of elite Soldier-athletes. He takes pride in combining military service with coaching, sharing the lessons that shaped his own career while helping others chase Olympic dreams.
