Evans came relatively late to the sport of running. Already a high school graduate, he took a four mile jog after his uncle won a major marathon race in Europe. Surprised how much he liked it, he decided to follow his uncle’s path. He saw many of his fellow Kenyans prove successful at distance racing, and thought maybe he, too, could be good at it. He proved to be much more than merely good. He has steadily stacked up medals since joining the Army in 2014, and counts as a professional highlight a second-place finish behind his WCAP teammate, Olympic medalist, and personal hero Paul Chelimo at NAIA Nationals in Indiana.

My teammates drive me to success – my fellow battle buddies. We train together day-in and doy-out. When the going gets tough, which it always does, I can count on them to get me through the next repetition of the workout. We laugh, we sweat, we ache…but we still get the work done as a team.
