SGT Vlad Dombrovskiy began his athletic career as a swimmer in his native Ukraine, but did not find the success he wanted. After a year, his mom switched him to wrestling to keep him busy, and he took to it quickly. He chose it simply because wrestling was a free sport that required little equipment, but he soon found he possessed an aptitude for besting his opponents. Before leaving for America, he became Ukraine’s cadet national freestyle champion. He continued a meteoric wrestling career after his arrival in the US, being named a three-time freestyle All-American and a 2018 Greco-Roman All-American. He has also won a bronze at the 2019 Dave Shultz Memorial International, as well as four All-Armed Forces championships.

The strong are the ones that fall down and learn how to get back up.
